Vertex Residence
A striking alpine retreat featuring cantilevered steel construction and panoramic mountain views.
The Vertex Residence represents the pinnacle of modern alpine living. Perched on a south-facing slope overlooking Lake Wakatipu, this three-bedroom home was engineered to embrace the dramatic landscape while providing year-round comfort in one of New Zealand's most demanding climates. Our engineering team developed a unique cantilevered steel frame system that appears to defy gravity, with the main living pavilion extending 4.2 metres beyond its foundation. This bold approach not only maximizes views but creates a sheltered outdoor entertaining space beneath. The home exceeds NZ Building Code requirements by 40%, featuring SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) construction, European uPVC tilt-and-turn windows with LOW-E Argon-filled double glazing, and a Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery system that captures 90% of exhaust heat. Annual energy costs are estimated at just $1,200 despite the alpine location. Interior finishes include engineered European oak flooring throughout living areas, fully tiled walk-in showers with recessed LED lighting, and a designer kitchen featuring quartz countertops and integrated Miele appliances. The master suite occupies the entire upper level with floor-to-ceiling glazing framing the Remarkables mountain range.
